My Latest Tape of Music to Work By
Note the Tom Tom Club song on side two and Joan Osborne, I bought her CD at a thrift shop for $3, I have been looking for it (cheap) ever since I heard her song "My Right Hand Man" it literally knocks me out. Also on the tape is stuff by the tragically short-lived Jeff Buckley (son of the also dead Tim) and a cut from Kim Deal's band The Amps (she was formerlly of The Pixies, and The Breeders.)
SIDE 1: Olive-Trickle; Pigeonhed-The Full Sentence; Jeff Buckley-Grace; Joan Osborne-Lumina; Neneh Cherry-Move With Me (dub); Daniel Lanois-Sleeping In The Devils Bed; Zephyr-Chasing Clouds; Gavin Friday-My Twentieth Century; Cocteau Twins-Frou-frou Foxes In Midsummer; Olive-Im Not In Love; Jeff Buckley-Lilac Wine; Concrete Blonde-Les Coeurs Jameaux; Sunscreem-Looking At You.
SIDE 2: Olive-Smile; Depeche Mode-Deaths Door; Patti Smith and Fred Smith-It Takes Time; Joan Osborne-My Crazy Baby; Concrete Blonde-Darkening Of The Light; The Amps-First Revival; Phish-Train Song; Tom Tom Club-Let There Be Love; Craig Armstrong featuring Elizabeth Fraser-This Love; Jeff Buckley-Dream Brother; Ellen McIlwaine-All To You; Olive-Youre Not Alone; Sunscreem-For Maddened Profits.

CDs to pick up
Beat:The Good The Bad And The Funky--Tom Tom Club--At first a let down, tracks 1-8 I don't find interesting at all and can't believe that such a quirky bunch could be so dull. But, there is a change with track 9 they do a good cover of the Donna Summer song Love To Love You Baby it goes along pretty much note for note as the original, not stunning but not bad either, it was a nice surprise to hear it again. What is really good is what follows tracks 10-13 are excellent new tunes and with that marvelously eccentric funky disco sound TTC are so good at. The culmination, the high point is track 12 Let There Be Love a beautiful haunting latin flavored tune that must be distributed to remixers to put together an extended version. Now it is almost 6 minutes but it is the kind of song that I can dance to over and over (like the Grace Jones version of La Vie Un Rose) so I hunger for a 12 minute dub or something--It alone was worth the price of the CD.
City Folk: Joan Armatrading's first album, Whatever's For Us, has finally been reissued on CD!!! Note: There is a typo on track number 10 the Song is "Gave It A Try" (not Give). This song used to be the intro to "The Morning After The Night Before" a gay show on WBAI in the early Seventies. The show was on at 5AM Sunday morning and included the DJs report on what happened Saturday night at the Firehouse (a Gay disco in a converted firehouse). The reissue includes two bonus tracks and additional photos of Joan also not part of the original LP.
Brazilian: Memories, chronicles and declarations of love--Marisa Monte who has four other titles available here.
Tribute: Time and love the music of Laura Nyro--Various artists perform covers and intriguing interpretations of the songs of the late musical genius.
Dance: Evolution One and NEW -- EVOLUTION TWO--DJ Michael Duretto, Ocean Drive--DJ Susan Morabito and Circuit Sonic--DJ Monty Q, Behind The Sun--Chicane.
Jazz and Cabaret: Decca reissues of Carmen McCrae and anything by the singer Nancy LaMott.
